Welcome to my website. I am Glenda Garrett. Working full time as a professional artist, together with my husband Charles, who is a custom framer, we make a great team. I am constantly working on commissioned artworks, although I try to work in a few freelance paintings for my own fulfillment. My customers come from all walks of life and all corners of the world but they all share an appreciation for realistic art. Animals and nature are my favourite subjects. I don’t consider my painting is finished until the subject seems to live and breathe. I like the challenge of creating a painting to suit my customer’s needs. I also like being able to make something that gives them great joy or comfort. I love to meet my subjects but can happily work from photos, they don't need to be great photos, the more the better, that way I develop a feel for the subject and can more closely display its character, heart and soul.

A little about my background. I was born in Sydney and as a child I displayed a talent for art. I attended Art Classes At the Drummoyne Municipal Art Society where I met Ian Cox, who was then Art Director at “The Sydney Morning Herald” He became my private tutor and mentor. With him the study of art was focused through drawing and oil painting. This continued for around a decade until 1978. I am self taught in my preferred medium which is Pastels. I find pastel work exciting because of its textures, luminosity and its immediacy. Working with pastel is like watching light and colour dance across the painting’s surface. I have exhibited and sold in many exhibitions over the years but I prefer to work directly with my customers. I like to discuss with them just what it is that they are looking for in a painting. I am also pleased to be able to offer my paintings as limited edition prints.
